What Are Beam Angles?

Beam angle is simply how wide or narrow a light spreads.

Imagine using a flashlight:

  • If the light is tight and focused → small (narrow) beam angle
  • If the light spreads out and covers a big area → large (wide) beam angle

Narrow beam angles (10°–30°) produce a focused, spotlight effect.

Medium beam angles (30°–60°) offer balanced lighting for general use.

Wide beam angles (60°–120° or more) spread light over a large area.

Choosing the right beam angle depends on your goal:

  • Highlight an object → go narrow
  • Light up a room → go wide
